FlighTowel Hands-On Review [Video]: Features, Durability, and Applications

Tim Hamersky by Tim Hamersky
Reading Time: 6 mins read

If you’re an avid disc golfer, you know that having the right equipment can make all the difference in your game. While you might have your go-to discs and trusty bag, there’s one piece of gear that you might be overlooking: the towel. That’s where the FlighTowel comes in. This versatile microfiber towel claims to not only keeps your discs dry and clean during a round but also have a unique design that can help you warm up and stay prepared between shots.

But is the FlighTowel really worth the investment? Keep reading and/or watch the video below to find out!

What is the FlighTowel?

First of all, it’s actually spelled FlighTowel and not FlightTowel or Flight Towel; this confused me at first so thought I’d set that straight.

Think of the FlighTowel like the Swiss Army Knife of disc golf towels. It’s not just any ordinary towel – it’s a versatile tool that can be used for a variety of purposes on the course. Made of high-quality microfiber material like many other towels on the market, the FlighTowel is designed to absorb water and keep your discs clean and dry. They’re also made by hand in the USA!

What really sets it apart is its unique fob (handle) design, which is like having a built-in personal trainer for your warm-up routine. The fob plus the sewn-in resistance pocket provides resistance as you pull the towel through like you’re throwing a disc and gives you responsive feedback as to how you’re throwing. The more of a “whip” you feel when throwing, the more spin you’re putting on your disc!

To me, it’s like having a resistance band or exercise ball in your disc golf bag. It’s not just for wiping your discs, it’s a tool that can help you improve your game. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, the FlighTowel claims to be the must-have tool that can help take your disc golf game to the next level.

Is that true? Let’s dive deeper into what makes the FlighTowel tick.

FlighTowel Materials and Quality

We’ve been very impressed with the materials and construction of the FlighTowel as we’ve been reviewing it here at Remix Outdoors. The microfiber towel is phenomenal at wiping wet or dirty discs and the sewing, paracord, and screws used to attach it to disc cutout are very secure and durable. We’ve done a lot of pulling and durability testing on the FlighTowel and it has held up without issue.

The FlighTowel is lightweight and small enough to fit in any disc golf bag or even your pocket.

FlighTowel Comfort

Comfort is another key factor to consider. The fob (handle) on this towel and wind resistance pocket are game-changers when it comes to how you warm up for a round. They give you the feel of throwing a disc without having to chase it down after each throw. It’s almost (but not quite) as good as having a friendly dog who always brings back the disc to you!

A nice plus as well is that the fob is conveniently sized to fit in a back pocket during play.

FlighTowel Features and Customization

When comparing the FlighTowel to other disc golf towels on the market, it wipes out the competition (pun intended). Its unique fob and wind pocket make it a valuable training tool to work on your form before a round or even indoors. Meanwhile, it does everything that a normal disc golf towel does as well.

FlighTowel offers a ton of variety on their website such as right-handed, left-handed, and XL disc fobs and multiple-colored towels. In addition, they sell a bunch of common disc options to grip while throwing with the FlighTowel (mostly Innova, Discraft, and Prodigy brands). We chose the Star Destroyer for our testing and it performed great. Recently they even started offering custom embroidery for $14.99 more (only available in black thread).

FlighTowel Applications

Warming Up

If the course is crowded and you don’t have time to toss a few warm up throws, the FlighTowel is the next best thing. It is great for loosening up the muscles before throwing and helping you focus on putting spin on the disc. And of course, it gives you instant feedback on your form without have to chase down a disc every time.

“Throwing” Indoors

If you don’t have time to go disc golfing or the weather is nasty, the FlighTowel can allow you to train from the comfort of your home. Disc golf is a game of consistency; the more you practice, the better you will be. The FlighTowel allows you to practice on days it would be otherwise impossible to.

Drying Discs

As mentioned, the FlighTowel is so versatile because it serves as both a training aid and disc golf towel, and it does both very well.

My Thoughts on the FlighTowel

Overall, I really like the concept of the FlighTowel and think the product has been executed well. In my opinion, it’s worth it to spend the extra dollars to get a great disc golf towel that can also serve as a training aid.

I also love supporting a product that is made by hand in the USA and the company appears to have great customer service. The variety was appealing, shipping was fast, and the product lived up to its marketing.

Since owning the FlighTowel, I’ve noticed myself training more in my house and using it to focus on creating spin on the disc before starting a round. We all know deep down that warmup prevents many common disc golf injuries. For those of us (like myself) who tend to jump right into the first hole without warming up, having a FlighTowel in your bag is a great way to do just that.
