The day has finally come! Days after professional disc golfer Simon Lizotte shoked the world by announcing he was leaving longtime sponsor Dismania, MVP Disc Sports revealed that “The Wunderkind” is joining their pro team. Keep reading for all the details!
Who is MVP Disc Sports?
MVP Disc Sports is an upcoming disc golf manufacturer known primarily for their patented GYRO® Overmold Technology which they claim enhances spin and allows their discs to stay in flight longer. Up until 2021, the brand had no top players; but that all changed with the signing of James Conrad who later went on to win the 2021 PDGA Professional World Championship in astonishing fashion that same year.
Fresh off of resigning Conrad for another 4 years, MVP was on the hunt for new talent to add to their team and solidify their place among the top disc golf brands.
Inside the 10-Year, Multi-Million Dollar Contract
MVP went all out to sign Simon Lizotte who is not only coming off the best year of his career at age 30, but also brings with him a large social media following and loyal fans. While every detail has not been revealed about the mega deal, Ultiword Disc Golf reports that MVP is paying Lizotte over a million dollars a year with a six-figure signing bonus and additional cash incentives for winning tournaments.
They also paid Discmania the $1,000,000 buyout clause necessary to release him from his contract with them set to expire in 2026. Lizotte stated in a previous video announcing his departure from Discmania that this was an offer he “had to take a closer look at,” and we agree!
The sport of disc golf has truly exploded in the last 10 years, as evidenced by Simon Lizotte originally signing with Discmania for “25 discs and a shirt” and now accepting a multi-million dollar offer 10 years later. Paul McBeth, one of the greatest players of all time and a pioneer of modern disc golf, opened the door for previously unheard of payouts for pro disc golfers by accepting a 10 year, 10 million dollar contract with Discraft in 2021. As disc golf gains more and more popularity, large contracts for top stars are sure to keep rolling in.
New Team, New Discs!
MVP has already announced the release of Simon Lizotte’s first Team Series disc called The Leapin’ Lizottl’ Eclipse Hex. The Hex is a slightly understable midrange that Simon mentioned enjoying in his latest video showing off his new disc lineup with MVP. “I don’t remember being this excited about a midrange, ever,” he stated. Looks like he’s off to a good start with MVP!
